On September 24, 2021, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.

Xi Jinping said that it's delightful to have this phone conversation with General Secretary Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong before China's National Day. Since the beginning of this year, I have kept close exchanges with General Secretary Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong in many ways to deepen strategic mutual trust between the two parties and two countries, enhance the traditional friendship, and jointly steer bilateral relations towards a long and steady path under new circumstances.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Vietnam are socialist neighboring countries connected by shared mountains and rivers, and constitute a strategic community with a shared future. Under the complicated circumstances of overlapping changes and a global pandemic both unseen in a century, the two sides have many common interests and concerns. We must advance along the right track, enhance solidarity and cooperation, further promote socialist causes, effectively safeguard the fundamental interests of the two parties, two countries and two peoples, and make positive contributions to regional and global peace and development.

Xi Jinping stressed that it serves both sides' fundamental and strategic interests to safeguard the Communist Party's governance and the institution of socialism. China firmly supports Comrade General Secretary in leading the CPV and the Vietnamese people to follow the socialist path that suits its national conditions and achieve the development goals established at the CPV's 13th National Congress. The two sides need to carry out institutional exchanges such as theoretical discussion, official training, and cooperation among local party committees, enhance the exchanges and mutual learning between counterpart departments of the two parties and two countries, and strengthen the guidance on public opinions. The two sides need to accelerate the alignment of development strategies, create new cooperation highlights, and bring a greater sense of benefit to the two peoples. China firmly supports Vietnam in overcoming the pandemic and promoting economic and social development. The two sides must enhance coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea, oppose politicizing the origins tracing of COVID-19, practice true multilateralism, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Nguyen Phu Trong warmly congratulated on the successful celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the upcoming 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). He spoke highly of the great achievements China has made under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core since the founding of the CPC and the PRC 100 years and 70-odd years ago, respectively, especially since the 18th National Congress of the CPC. He also believes that China will achieve remarkable results on a new journey toward fully building a modern socialist country. Nguyen Phu Trong said that the relations between the two parties and two countries are maintaining good momentum, with close high-level exchanges and rapid growth in economic and trade cooperation. Vietnam attaches great importance to the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and always regards it as a top priority. Vietnam is grateful for China's valuable support and assistance for its fight against the pandemic and its recovery of economic and social activities. The CPV stands ready to enhance inter-party exchanges with the CPC, strengthen political mutual trust, deepen experience sharing of party and state governance, boost mutually beneficial cooperation in economy, trade, COVID-19 response, cultural exchanges, local government and other fields, advance the socialist causes of both sides and bilateral relations, and jointly promote peace and stability in the region and the whole world.
